The circumstance that led to the eviction of Sierra Leone’s ultimate representative in the popular Big Brother Star Game is nothing to write home about.
In fact, all patriotic Sierra Leoneans were shocked to learn about the damage caused to Mama Salone as a result of the actions of a single citizen.
To say Sierra Leone was disgraced by Zainab Sherriff is definitely an understatement, because the country actually suffers a major dent in its moral credentials.
Reports have it that Zainab and a Ghanaian national known as DKB were both evicted from the show after they were found wanton of engaging in acts contrary to the rules of the show.
The two participants seriously quarreled and the aftermath was a heavy slap on the jaw of Zainab.
Don’t be quick to shout ‘violence against a woman’, because it might turn out to be the wrong adjective of what actually happened.
In our view, Zainab could have saved herself the heavy slap if she had behaved like the decent Sierra Leonean lady she is supposed to be, by simply refraining from arguing with a man to the extent of using abusive languages against the latter.
Zainab could have stayed in the Big Brother Star game if she had not intentionally opened the bathroom door where her male counterpart was having a naked bath. Zainab could have made Sierra Leone proud by resisting the urge to seduce or sexually harass some of the male participants to satisfy her sexual urge. Zainab could have saved herself the embarrassment of letting the world know she is a rape victim if she had kept sealed lips about that sad episode in her life, during her stay in the Big Brother House.
It seems as if Zainab totally forgot that she was not there to represent the image of Zainab as an individual. She failed to realize that the whole of Sierra Leone’s image was entrusted in her at the Big Brother show.
What a disappointment she turned out to be!
In the eyes of many, Zainab stood the chance to be the ultimate winner of the Big Brother show. Those hopes were just shattered and battered in the twinkle of an eye when she decides to put up acts not worthy of emulation.
No wonder Ghana is blaming us (Sierra Leone) for the eviction of their darling participant, DKB.
But as for the Ghanaian DKB, he must learn to be a real man by resisting the urge to react violently to women’s ranting.
Come to think of it, what were the selection criteria for Sierra Leone’s representatives to the Big Brother show? Why, where, when and how was Zainab and the other participant selected to represent Sierra Leone? These are some of the burning questions seeking answers.
All the same, we hope Sierra Leone will learn a lesson from this shameful episode and put modalities in place to ensure that Sierra Leone would not be disgraced like this again in the future. We should be very selective about the type of people we entrust country’s image on.
